Preview: Gibbs Gladiators vs. Lakewood Ranch Mustangs
Gibbs has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Gibbs might've scored the first points on Friday, but it was Lakewood who claimed the real prize. Gibbs took a 21-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lakewood.
The losing side was boosted by Dontrez Young, who gained 102 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Lakewood Ranch, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 30-14 loss to Palmetto on Friday. Lakewood Ranch has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gibbs' loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-0 Hawthorne and 4-2 Palmetto (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.5% over those games). As for Lakewood Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Gibbs ended up a good deal behind Lakewood Ranch in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, losing 34-18. Can Gibbs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
