Volleyball Recap: Clarkston Falls Short Against Ranked Mercy

Clarkston faced Mercy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolves fell 2-0 to the Marlins. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolves of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.

Kaylynn Johnson paced Clarkston's offense, picking up eight kills. Johnson got some help from Marlie Smith and her 11 assists.

Mercy found their leader in freshman Kate Berghoff, who had five digs and four aces.

Clarkston has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 24-5 record this season. As for Mercy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 32-3.

Clarkston wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Lakeland on the 18th. As for Mercy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-1 defeat against South Lyon East on the 23rd.
