Basketball Recap: Russell Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Russell came tearing into Thursday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 win over the Larned Indians. For the Broncos, this counts as revenge for the 65-33 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Leading Russell to victory were Kelvie Reeves and Norah Mooney. Reeves went 7-for-12 en route to 16 points in addition to six assists and four steals, while Mooney shot 43% from the field to rack up 20 points and six rebounds. Reeves is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 24 games she's played dating back to last season. Aubrey Birney was another key player, going 5-for-7 on her way to 12 points and five boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Russell was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They are 9-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Russell's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Larned, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.

Coming up, Russell will be taking part in a tournament against Colby at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Colby has won three straight at home, while Russell won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Larned does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
