Basketball Recap: Chase Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wootton over Walter Johnson + How To Watch

Wootton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-5. They fell 64-54 to the Walter Johnson Wildcats. If the Patriots were looking for revenge after losing 71-59 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in February, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Wootton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Chase Mitchell, who posted 21 points. That was a full 38.9% of Wootton's points, marking the fourth time in a row Mitchell has put up more than a third of the team's points. Darnel Engoto also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

As for Walter Johnson, their win bumped their record up to 5-2. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walter Johnson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Walker, who had 17 points. Another player making a difference was Will Kreisle, who shot 55% from the field to rack up 13 points and five assists.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Wootton will face off against rival Whitman at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Walter Johnson is set to take on their familiar foe Churchill on Friday. The game will give the Wildcats their first taste of in-conference action this season.
