Baseball Recap: Fultondale's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

The third road match was the charm for Fultondale, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Fairfield Tigers on Thursday. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 11-5 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Brody Mathis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Fultondale is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Mathis was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaiden Palmer, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Fultondale: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Austin Rogers was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Fultondale's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-5. As for Fairfield, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Fultondale will square off against Pleasant Grove at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fairfield, they will head out to square off against Woodlawn at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
