Basketball Game Preview: Watsonville Wildcatz vs. Seaside Spartans

The Watsonville Wildcatz are taking a road trip to challenge the Seaside Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Watsonville has four straight wins, Seaside has 22 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Tuesday, Watsonville was able to grind out a solid victory over Marina, taking the game 58-45. Given the Wildcatz's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 442nd, while the Mariners are ranked 1035th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Watsonville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was George Madec out in front who went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points. Another player making a difference was Leon Madec, who posted 12 points along with five assists and five boards.

Meanwhile, Seaside took a blow against Stevenson on Tuesday, falling 68-32.

Watsonville is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.9 points per game. As for Seaside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-20.

Everything came up roses for Watsonville against Seaside when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured an 82-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Watsonville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
