Softball Recap: Jonathan Alder Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Jonathan Alder dropped their record down to 8-8 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fairbanks Panthers. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2016.

Ava Schellhammer and Natalie Neumeier did some serious damage despite the final result: Schellhammer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI, while Neumeier went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kylie Petersheim, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for Fairbanks, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11 runs.

On Fairbanks' side, Claire Meihls was excellent, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyah Hendren, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Jonathan Alder is taking a road trip to square off against Bellefontaine at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Chieftains have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.42 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fairbanks, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Northeastern at 5:00 p.m. The Panthers are facing the Jets at the right time seeing as the Jets are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
