The Westmont Warriors will take on the Soquel Knights at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Westmont's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Milpitas with a sharp 11-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Warriors as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Vinnie Moreno made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Moreno was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Peyton Hines and Kainoa Raub did most of the damage at the plate: Hines went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Raub scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Hines a new career-high in runs. Roman Soto was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Westmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Soquel's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against Willow Glen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 25, 2024.
Soquel got a big performance out of Gabe Virgallito, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sam Whelan, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Soquel pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Westmont, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3-1.
Everything went Westmont's way against Soquel in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Westmont made off with an 8-2 win. Will Westmont repeat their success, or does Soquel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
