Soccer Game Preview: Jefferson County vs. Screven County

Jefferson County is 1-8 against Screven County since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out to face off against the Gamecocks at 5:00 p.m. Jefferson County has given up an average of 3.3 goals per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Jefferson County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to four goals two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Dodge County last Thursday. They lost 5-0 to the Indians. While losing is never fun, Jefferson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 374th, while Dodge County are ranked 182nd).

Meanwhile, Screven County kept a clean sheet against Lincoln County last Thursday. They blew past the Red Devils 5-0. Considering Screven County have won six matchups by more than four goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit Lincoln County with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Anna Kate Withrow (3), Mica Shipes, and Charley Brannen.

Screven County pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six games. As for Jefferson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Jefferson County might still be hurting after the 5-1 loss they got from Screven County when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
