Football Recap: Aven Thomas Key Part of Team Effort in Eagles Win

Delta won the last time they faced Shelbyville and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles strolled past the Golden Bears with points to spare, taking the game 24-7.

Delta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aven Thomas, who rushed for 151 yards. Those 151 rushing yards gave Thomas a new career-high.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Delta's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Everrett Linn, Grey Backus, and Ryan Neal, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Despite the defeat, Shelbyville had strong showings from Grantland Fitzgerald, who gained 87 total yards and a touchdown, and Donavon Martin, who rushed for 138 yards. Fitzgerald also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending one pass.

Delta's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Shelbyville, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Delta didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-7 defeat against Yorktown on the 12th. As for Shelbyville, they have also already played their next matchup, a 35-21 win against New Castle on the 12th.
