Basketball Recap: Colin Lamb Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Topsail

Laney won the last time they faced Topsail and things went their way on Thursday too. The Laney Buccaneers were the clear victor by a 67-46 margin over the Topsail Pirates. The Buccaneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Colin Lamb, who went 6-for-12 en route to 13 points. Lamb is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Fortun, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 17 points.

Laney was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They racked up nine more assists than Topsail's also-impressive total of 11.

Topsail's loss came despite strong showings from Rhett Britt and Elijah Hebron. Britt went 7-for-12 on his way to 21 points, while Hebron posted 13 points. What's more, Britt also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Duron Vaughn was another key player, putting up four points in addition to four steals and three blocks.

The victory made it two in a row for Laney and bumps their season record up to 15-7. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 8-14 North Brunswick and 10-14 Topsail. As for Topsail, their record is now 10-14.

Coming up, Laney will be playing at home against North Brunswick at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Laney is facing North Brunswick at the right time seeing as North Brunswick is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Topsail, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hoggard at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Topsail is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
