Basketball Game Preview: Monarch Coyotes vs. Fairview Knights

The Monarch Coyotes will challenge the Fairview Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Monarch took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Niwot by a score of 70-57. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Cougars are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dylan Ehrnstrom was a one-man wrecking crew for Monarch as he went 9 of 14 en route to 25 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Ehrnstrom a new career-high in field goal percentage (64%). Another player making a difference was Logan Laverty, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairview). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Skyline 72-39. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Fairview pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Monarch, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.

Everything went Monarch's way against Fairview in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Monarch made off with a 64-41 win. Does Monarch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fairview turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
