Football Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

After flying high against Cigarroa last Friday, Southside came back down to earth. The Cardinals fell 22-18 to the Nixon Mustangs on Friday. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 28-21 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

A big part of Nixon's victory came down to the chemistry between Hunter Salinas and his top target Hugo Ramos. Salinas threw for 204 yards and two TDs while Ramos picked up 65 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Southside's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Nixon, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Southside will challenge rival Martin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Nixon is set to face off against their familiar foe South San Antonio at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
