After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Parkway South, Hazelwood West was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Northwest Lions. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Lions back in March, they had to take a 7-2 defeat.

Billy Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Douglas, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last six matchups.

Hazelwood West now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Northwest, they dropped their record down to 5-11 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazelwood West will take on Webster Groves at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Northwest, they will square off against Rockwood Summit at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
