Softball Game Preview: Gaylord Blue Devils vs. Sault Area Blue Devils

Gaylord will head out on the road to face off against Sault Area at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gaylord has three straight victories, Sault Area has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Gaylord gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Petoskey by a score of 16-12.

Cadence Green looked comfortable as she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lily Ryckman Hall and Makayla Kozlowski did most of the damage at the plate: Ryckman Hall got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Kozlowski went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Ryckman Hall has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lilly Lauer, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Sault Area fell victim to Cheboygan and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Chiefs, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Gaylord's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Sault Area, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Everything went Gaylord's way against Sault Area in their previous meeting back in April, as Gaylord made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gaylord since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
