Baseball Recap: Farina South Central Has No Trouble Against Edwards County

Farina South Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Edwards County on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Lions 9-0. Considering the Cougars have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Callaway SSmith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Farina South Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Farina South Central let Colton Smith and Chase Guerrettaz run wild. Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Guerrettaz went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Smith has become a key player for Farina South Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Hoover, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The victory got Farina South Central back to even at 10-10. As for Edwards County, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.

Coming up, Farina South Central will look to defend their home field on Monday against Neoga at 4:30 p.m. As for Edwards County, they will face off against Flora at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.
