Preview: Pratt Greenbacks vs. Holcomb Longhorns
Two dominant backs in Max Younie and Damon Mesa are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pratt Greenbacks will head out on the road to face off against the Holcomb Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Pratt is ranked 62nd, while Holcomb is ranked 63rd).
After soaring to 52 points the game before, Pratt were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They took a serious blow against Andale, falling 43-6. Pratt was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-6.
Meanwhile, Holcomb put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Southwestern Heights with a sharp 48-22 victory. Holcomb pushed the score to 48-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Southwestern Heights cut but never quite recovered from.
Among those leading the charge was Keegan Johnson, who threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mesa also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Andale's victory bumped their season record to 7-1 while Pratt's loss dropped theirs to 4-4.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Pratt and Holcomb haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Pratt commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.6 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Holcomb struggles in that department as they've been even better at 5.5 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Pratt was able to grind out a solid win over Holcomb in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 47-34. Will Pratt repeat their success, or does Holcomb have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
