Baseball Recap: Airport's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Airport came tearing into Saturday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Irmo Yellow Jackets 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brice Gillette was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braden Gross, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season. Isahia Clemons was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Airport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Airport's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Irmo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Airport will be playing at home against Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gilbert's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Airport's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Irmo, they will head out to challenge White Knoll at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Irmo is facing White Knoll at the right time seeing as White Knoll is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
