Soccer Game Preview: Ponderosa vs. Chaparral

The Ponderosa Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Chaparral Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chaparral will have to contend with a Ponderosa squad hungry for a victory, something the team hasn't seen since March 25. Ponderosa fell just short of Legend by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. One reason for the loss might be Ponderosa's aggressive play style: Jaelynn Fletcher and Leah Stamper were both handed yellow cards.

Ponderosa's goal came courtesy of Reece Mervin, who's now up to two this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). Their defense stepped up to hand Eaglecrest a 9-0 shutout on Saturday. With that win, Chaparral brought their scoring average up to 3 goals per game.

The victory made it two in a row for Chaparral and bumps their season record up to 7-3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two matchups. As for Ponderosa, they now have a losing record of 4-5-2.

Ponderosa suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Chaparral in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
