Basketball Preview: Marion Warriors vs. Moundridge Wildcats
Marion is 1-9 against the Wildcats since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Marion Warriors will be playing at home against the Moundridge Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Marion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
Last Friday, Marion came up short against the Black Bears and fell 44-36. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Marion in their matchups with the Black Bears: they've now lost nine in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Grace Hett, who scored 12 points along with eight steals. Kenna Wesner was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Moundridge made off with a 46-45 win over the Inman Teutons. The win made it back-to-back wins for Moundridge.
Moundridge's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Macy Kaminkow, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Cammi Unruh, who scored 13 points along with six assists and four steals. Unruh hasn't dropped below three steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Addy Patrick, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Marion's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Moundridge, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Marion have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Moundridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
