Baseball Game Preview: Alamosa Mean Moose vs. Montrose Red Hawks

The Alamosa Mean Moose will face off against the Montrose Red Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Alamosa is leaving town to face Montrose after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Alamosa fell just short of Salida by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday.

AJ Baker was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Carlos Garcia was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Montrose never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Roaring Fork last Saturday. Everything went their way against the Rams as they made off with a 16-9 victory. The win continues a trend for the Red Hawks in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Ryan Pankey was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Pankey was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Montrose let Jayce England and Joey Benitez run wild. England scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Benitez scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Chase Gleason, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Alamosa might still be hurting after the 10-3 defeat they got from Montrose in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can Alamosa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
