Softball Preview: Liberty Bison vs. Poly Bears

The Liberty Bison will head out on the road to challenge the Poly Bears at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Liberty knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Poly likes a good challenge.

Liberty proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Rancho Cucamonga 13-12. 13 seems to be a good number for the Bison as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Lissette Quinones was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Julianna Larson, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, while Poly put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Valley View. The Bears walked away with a 5-0 win over the Eagles.

Not much got past Marley Audoma, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Valley View off the board. Audoma has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cassandra Ayala was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten contests. Isabella Magallon was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Poly has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their record now sits at 10-2.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Liberty hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Poly struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Everything went Liberty's way against Poly in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Liberty made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bison since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
