Basketball Recap: Memorial Day Comes Up Short

Memorial Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 55-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders. The Matadors lost against the Crusaders in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 54-18 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Memorial Day saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Johnkeria Miles dropped a double-double with 27 points and 16 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miles has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalynn Brown, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Memorial Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Memorial Day's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Robert Toombs Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Citizens Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Robert Toombs Christian Academy will host Citizens Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Memorial Day will host them at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
