Baseball Recap: Upperman Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Upperman entered their tilt with Stone Memorial on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Stone Memorial Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-3 last Tuesday.

Julian Llano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Llano wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rookie Allison, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Chris Wirsing, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Upperman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Upperman pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Stone Memorial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Upperman will be taking part in a tournament against Beech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Beech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Stone Memorial, they will head out on the road to face off against Cumberland County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
