Preview: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Fivay Falcons
The Weeki Wachee Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fivay Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Weeki Wachee will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
Weeki Wachee struggled with assists on Friday (Springstead had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Weeki Wachee fell 63-53 to Springstead. While losing is never fun, Weeki Wachee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 562nd, while Springstead is ranked 260th).
Despite the defeat, Weeki Wachee got a solid performance out of Isaac Priester, who scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Priester has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jean Garcia was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fivay put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 83-46 win over Anclote at home. The win was just what Fivay needed coming off of a 72-52 loss in their prior match.
Fivay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dominick Walsh, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Walsh is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Morales, who scored 15 points.
Weeki Wachee has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Fivay, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Weeki Wachee have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fivay struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 28.5 rebounds per game. Given Weeki Wachee's sizeable advantage in that area, Fivay will need to find a way to close that gap.
Weeki Wachee might still be hurting after the 74-49 loss they got from Fivay in their previous meeting back in February of 2017. Will Weeki Wachee have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
