Soccer Game Preview: Union Pines vs. Terry Sanford

The Union Pines Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Terry Sanford Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Union Pines will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Union Pines proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 13) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a goal and slipped past Richmond 2-1. Given Union Pines' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Richmond are ranked 213th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Terry Sanford kept a clean sheet against Westover on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 4-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Terry Sanford, who have now won six matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit Westover with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Sophia Mercado (2), Taylor Stangle, and Zaniya Reddick.

Terry Sanford pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those six contests. As for Union Pines, their win bumped their record up to 12-3-1.

Union Pines took their victory against Terry Sanford in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
