Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Western's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Western unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southridge Spartans. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Southridge had a senior duo take command as O?Cien Valdes went 7 of 13 on his way to 19 points and three steals and Deandre Hardy went 7 for 14 en route to 16 points and four steals. Hardy's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Todd Holmes, who posted nine points.

Western's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Southridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

When Western and Southridge next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Western will try to stop Cardinal Gibbons' four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Western is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road dating back to last season. Similarly, Southridge will face off against Miami and their six-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
