Baseball Recap: Arroyo Takes a Loss

Arroyo extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-10-1. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Freedom Falcons. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by exactly three runs.

Christian Escamilla was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.

As for Freedom, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Freedom's side, Luis Sepulveda tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 6.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Sepulveda a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Cruz Padilla was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Oskar Rivera was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Arroyo will venture away from home to face off against San Leandro at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Dons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Freedom, they will welcome Liberty at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.9, the Lions 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
