Baseball Recap: Mauldin Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Mauldin nor Easley made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mavericks fell 5-2 to the Green Wave. That makes it the first time this season the Mavericks have let down their home crowd.

Ethan Cooker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mauldin saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Gunderson, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Mauldin's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Easley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Mauldin will square off against Greenville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Easley, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-0 loss against Hillcrest on the 6th.
