Ava Lord spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Dodgeville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Brom, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Brienna Wasley was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Prairie du Chien, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Iowa-Grant on Friday as they made off with an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blackhawks, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Claire Kennedy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last eight games.
In other batting news, Lainey Mitchell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Abigail McCullick also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Prairie du Chien's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dodgeville, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 8-5.
Dodgeville came out on top in a nail-biter against Prairie du Chien in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 11-9. Will the Dodgers repeat their success, or do the Blackhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
