Basketball Recap: Hinkley Takes a Loss

Hinkley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 22nd straight defeat dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Regis Groff Fusion 84-19. The Thunder were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-11.

When it comes to explaining why Hinkley lost, don't look at Malachi Holden. Despite the final result, he posted 15 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. The match was Holden's third in a row with at least 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Regis Groff to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Murdock, who went 11-for-27 on his way to 28 points along with seven steals and five assists. Regis Groff is undefeated when Murdock posts 15 or more points, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Javelle Taylor, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine assists.

Hinkley's loss dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Regis Groff, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Hinkley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Regis Groff, they will challenge Thomas Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Thomas Jefferson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.
