Preview: Dunbar Wildcats vs. Lake Worth Bullfrogs
Dunbar is 3-0 against Lake Worth since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Dunbar Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Worth Bullfrogs at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dunbar entered their tilt with Castleberry with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Dunbar claimed a resounding 59-9 win over Castleberry at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-0.
Ja'marion Garrett had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 125 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 carries. Ben Smith also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lake Worth humbled Western Hills with a 49-21 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lake Worth.
Damion Hopkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 111 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, while also picking up 51 receiving yards. Hopkins was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. Another player making a difference was Cornell Avington, who gained 127 total yards and a touchdown.
Dunbar's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Diamond Hill-Jarvis and 2-6 Castleberry (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30% over those games). As for Lake Worth, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Dunbar didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lake Worth in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 14-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dunbar since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
