The Seguin Matadors will head out to take on the Jefferson Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Seguin has three straight wins, Jefferson has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Seguin's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Lanier as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Dylan Eisen was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Josh Medina was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Seguin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Jefferson suffered their closest loss since March 25th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Burbank by a score of 8-6.
Gabriel Rangel and Aiden Urdiales stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rangel got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, while Urdiales went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Urdiales is becoming a predictor of Jefferson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-3 (and 6-11 when he doesn't).
Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Seguin, their win bumped their record up to 17-8-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Seguin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seguin took their victory against Jefferson when the teams last played on April 1st by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Matadors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
