Baseball Recap: Swansboro Triumphs

While Swansboro's win against Croatan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Cougars 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.

DJ Schofield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Swansboro is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Swansboro's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Till, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Jealen Oaks, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Swansboro picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Croatan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Swansboro wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Dixon on the 24th. As for Croatan, they have also already played their next matchup, a 22-3 win against Northside - Jacksonville on the 24th.
