Baseball Recap: Somers Tuskers vs. Lakeland Hornets
Somers had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it five. They lost 8-1 to the Lakeland Hornets. The Tuskers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
As for Lakeland, the victory got them back to even at 3-3. They not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2025 (when they won 12-2).
For Lakeland's part, Ramzi Done was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Done has become a key player for Lakeland: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Done was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season.
Done wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake Consiglio, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two hits gave Consiglio a new career-high. Louie Vernagallo was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Somers will face off against rival Hendrick Hudson at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st. The matchup will give the Tuskers their first taste of in-conference action this season. Meanwhile, Lakeland is set to square off against their familiar foe John Jay at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
