Baseball Game Preview: Catholic Central Irish vs. Northeastern Jets

The Catholic Central Irish will venture away from home to take on the Northeastern Jets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Catholic Central's hitters haven't had much luck over their past six games, but Friday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Catholic Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Greeneview, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Irish fell just short of the Rams by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Irish have suffered against the Rams since April 22, 2022.

Meanwhile, Northeastern came up short against Greenon on Friday and fell 14-11. Even if the Jets couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Jake Newman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Smith, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Catholic Central's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Northeastern, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Catholic Central skirted past Northeastern 7-6 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
