Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Port St. Joe

Port St. Joe had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 36-28 win over the Franklin County Seahawks. This was a revenge game for the Tiger Sharks: when they faced off against the Seahawks two weeks ago, they had to take a 34-26 defeat.

Port St. Joe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ellie Newman out in front who posted 13 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Newman is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Addy Silcox, who had eight points and six steals.

Despite the loss, Franklin County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jayla Creamer put up 12 points. The dominant performance gave Creamer a new career-high in points.

Port St. Joe's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Franklin County, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 10-6.

Port St. Joe has already played their next contest, a 60-43 victory against Covenant Christian on the 27th. As for Franklin County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-6 win against Liberty County on the 27th.
