Softball Game Preview: Albany Cougars vs. Campolindo Cougars

Albany will head out to take on Campolindo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Albany is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Albany is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 24 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Salesian College Preparatory on Wednesday. They came up short against the Pride, falling 10-0. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Pride recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Campolindo). They were the clear victors by a 24-9 margin over Ygnacio Valley last Wednesday.

Paige Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She also tossed two walks, marking her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Campolindo let Nicky Sturtz and Cassidy Mintz run wild. Sturtz scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Mintz scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, Mintz posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maya Hammerman, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Campolindo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Campolindo's record is now 2-5. As for Albany, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
