The Ponderosa Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Inderkum Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ponderosa lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Vista del Lago, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Bruins put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 11-1 victory on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Haley Warney spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
At the plate, Ponderosa got a big performance out of Brooklynn Nordquist, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs. Kate McCartney was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Ponderosa hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Inderkum made sure to put some runs up on the board against Rio Americano on Monday. The Tigers blew past the Raiders 14-2. Considering the Tigers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Natalie Aboosh made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Aboosh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Ambrosia Estacio and Alexandra Jacques did most of the damage at the plate: Estacio went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Jacques went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Estacio is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Helaina Bautista, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Ponderosa is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Inderkum, their record now sits at 14-12-1.
Ponderosa was able to grind out a solid victory over Inderkum in their previous matchup on April 8th, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
