The Davenport Broncos will face off against the Mulberry Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Davenport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Davenport is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Ridge Community with a sharp 18-1 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Bolts: they've now won five in a row.
Ashanti Pagan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Duran, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Leena Sakal, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Davenport hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridge Community struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Mulberry had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Bulldogs. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.
Haylie Hightower spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 13 hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
On the hitting side, Lorianys Castanon Cruz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Zoe Petersen was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Davenport's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Mulberry, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Davenport has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mulberry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
