Basketball Game Preview: KIPP Esperanza Eagles vs. Summit Preparatory Huskies

The KIPP Esperanza Eagles will face off against the Summit Preparatory Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for KIPP Esperanza and eight for Summit Preparatory dating back to last season.

KIPP Esperanza is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pescadero back in December of 2024.

KIPP Esperanza might have lost, but man, Eddie Whiteside was a machine: he posted 27 points. That was a full 61.4% of KIPP Esperanza's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jereny Castro, who had 12 points.

Summit Preparatory kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They had to suffer through a 60-28 loss at the hands of Mountain View Academy. The Huskies were down 49-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

KIPP Esperanza's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Summit Preparatory, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

KIPP Esperanza lost to Summit Preparatory at home by a decisive 60-46 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022.
