Basketball Recap: Milani Baughns Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Rockdale County

Alcovy took a 29-point loss the last time they faced off against Rockdale County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 43-40 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Alcovy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Milani Baughns led the charge by dropping a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Baughns is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Minah Little, who posted 11 points and five steals.

Alcovy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Rockdale County's loss came despite strong showings from Kamya Bryant and Jayda Edwards. Bryant put up 12 points along with five boards and five steals, while Edwards had seven points and ten rebounds. Edwards also grabbed a steal, marking her first of the season. Ari Browning was another key player, putting up eight points.

Alcovy's record is now 4-1. As for Rockdale County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Alcovy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 48-23 win against Jasper County on the 5th. Rockdale County has also already played their next game (against Newton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
