Softball Game Preview: Liberty Leopards vs. Southeast Pirates

The Liberty Leopards will take on the Southeast Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Liberty turned things around against Leetonia on Wednesday. They blew past the Bears 15-4. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Leopards' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Southeast got the win against Newton Falls on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Morgan Muncy, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Lylia Lavigna was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Southeast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newton Falls only posted an OBP of .167.

Southeast's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.

Liberty suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Southeast when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Leopards avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
