Baseball Recap: Maeser Prep Academy Starts off Right with Win over Freedom Prep Academy

Maeser Prep Academy gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Freedom Prep Academy Eagles with a sharp 17-1 victory. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Jonny Mitchell and Logan Sollami made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Mitchell struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sollami tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Mitchell went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Sollami got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Mitchell has posted since back in September of 2024.

In other batting news, Corbin Turner and Easton Pyne did most of the damage at the plate: Turner went 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple, while Pyne got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Pyne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tom Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Maeser Prep Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Freedom Prep Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
