Softball Recap: El Dorado Takes a Loss

If El Dorado was feeling good fresh off their 6-0 takedown of Sunny Hills last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. El Dorado fell just short of the Charter Oak Chargers by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The Golden Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Chargers from their previous meeting back in March of 2021.

Kayla Davenport was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jessica Cherms was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Renay Chavez, who went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Even though they lost, El Dorado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. This was only their first loss (out of six games) when they post 11 or more hits.

El Dorado's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Charter Oak, the win keeps they at an undefeated 5-0.

El Dorado wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 6-1 victory against Santiago on the 22nd. As for Charter Oak, they will face off against San Dimas at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
