Softball Recap: Otay Ranch Has No Trouble Against Eastlake

Otay Ranch barely beat Eastlake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Titans on Wednesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Zoey Gonzales made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Scarlett Martinez tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

Back at the plate, Ariele Torres was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaylin Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Otay Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastlake only posted a batting average of .231.

Otay Ranch's win bumped their record up to 13-10-1. As for Eastlake, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-10-1.

Otay Ranch and Eastlake could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Mustangs will take on Mater Dei Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (125 vs. 21). Meanwhile, Eastlake (ranked 156th) will meet Bonita Vista (ranked 41st) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
