Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Pomona Panthers
Two dominant players in Seilani Relford and Kendra Ritzmann are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Overland Trailblazers will take on the Pomona Panthers in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
After a string of six wins dating back to last season, Overland's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 70-50 walloping at the hands of Rock Canyon. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Overland has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Pomona unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak last Saturday. They were dealt a 53-18 defeat at the hands of Standley Lake. Pomona has not had much luck with Standley Lake recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the loss, Pomona got a solid performance out of Ritzmann, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Ritzmann scored a full 50% of Pomona's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pomona struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Standley Lake racked up nine assists.
Overland's loss dropped their record down to 5-1. As for Pomona, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Overland came up short against Pomona in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 45-41. Can Overland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
