Softball Recap: Ponte Vedra Victorious

It's playoff time, and Ponte Vedra had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Beachside Barracudas on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Sharks in their matchups with the Barracudas: they've now won four in a row.

Aoife Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emma Shin was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Carley Clarkson, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Ponte Vedra's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Beachside, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-10.

Looking ahead, Ponte Vedra will challenge Matanzas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Sharks surely won't give up without a fight. Beachside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
