Softball Game Preview: El Segundo Eagles vs. Torrance Tartars

The El Segundo Eagles will square off against the Torrance Tartars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Torrance will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: El Segundo extended their winning streak to 11 on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past North 15-3.

Jacy Lindsay tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, El Segundo got a massive performance out of Marilyn McCaverty, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI. That's the most RBI McCaverty has posted since back in February. Kacey Ekstrom was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

El Segundo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North only posted an OBP of .182.

Meanwhile, Torrance's hitters rose to the challenge against a Vikings pitching crew that boasted an average of only three runs allowed on Tuesday. The Tartars were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Santa Monica. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tartars.

El Segundo's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Torrance, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.

El Segundo was able to grind out a solid victory over Torrance in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tartars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
