Baseball Game Preview: Odyssey Institute Minotaur vs. Yuma Catholic Shamrocks

Odyssey Institute is 2-8 against Yuma Catholic since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Minotaur will be playing in front of their home fans against the Shamrocks at 3:45 p.m. Odyssey Institute has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Monday just wasn't the day for Odyssey Institute's offense. They lost 12-0 to ALA - West Foothills on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Minotaur's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Yuma Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They never let the Broncs get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The Shamrocks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Hiram Silva's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ivan Guzman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Alatorre, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Yuma Catholic pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Odyssey Institute, they now have a losing record of 6-7-1.
